Sterling Castle and William Wallace Monument

The first weekend after the group arrived, we decided we needed a group bonding experience. Dr. Buckley arranged for the group and his family to take the hour train ride to Sterling, located in the southern Highlands. The main attractions in sterling are the Sterling Castle and the William Wallace monument. After briefly stopping for a quick cup of coffee we jetted up the hill to the Castle. My overall review of the was positive and one of the best castles I saw in Scotland. Although it was not in its total original form, the kept its authenticity fairly well. Surprisingly, a free headset was available, which I found very informative. I roamed around a bit with friends, and enjoyed the beautiful, but rare sunny weather. After the castle, the group got lunch at the Nikki Tams restaurant. It was one of the first times to group got to know each other. Natalie, Bekky, and I hightailed it off to to The William Wallace Monument next. We took a bus to the top, offering a great view of Sterling and the castle from afar. The Monument cost a lot of money to climb to the top so we decided against it. But all fun was not lost; I took some great pictures with a local re-enactor as well as a man playing a special music machine. On our way back down to the bus the girls and I found some horses roaming a field, and gave them a quick pet. We found our way back to the train station after a fun filled day. This destination is so close to Edinburgh and is a must see!
